About

I’m Ramy, a software designer and front-end developer from Montréal, based in New York. For the past 15 years, I’ve designed and built software across commerce, finance, education, and travel.

My work spans product design, design systems, and front-end development. I co-created Metal, Brex’s design system, and previously led the Primer design system at Glossier.

At Brex, I design banking and payments experiences. I also help lead design infrastructure, spanning design systems, tooling, and AI-assisted prototyping.

Work & life

Brex ↗

2021–Now · New York

Staff Product Designer / Design Engineer

2026–Now

Designing customer experiences across Banking and Payables, alongside design systems and frontend performance work across Brex.

Building tools to make Brex’s design team AI-native. Through Designers Who Code, an initiative I started at Brex, I help designers build technical fluency, prototype with production components, and take greater ownership of bringing their designs to life.

Senior Product Designer

2021–2025

Co-created Metal, Brex’s design system, and grew into leading its design adoption across the product. My role expanded into major initiatives across mobile and banking, including redesigns of the mobile app and banking experience through customer research and hands-on frontend development. I also designed global search and Smart Tables, the complex data table component at the heart of Brex that every customer uses to view expenses, cards, spend limits, and more. My involvement spanned early exploration through implementation.

Product Design Lead at Glossier ↗

2019–2021 · New York

Led the development of Primer, Glossier’s design system, bringing consistency and accessibility across e-commerce and retail for a beauty brand generating over $100M in annual revenue across 7 countries. The system also gave brand and marketing teams better tools to create with.

Redesigned the product page at the heart of the online shopping experience, bringing benefits, ingredients, and product claims into clearer focus to help customers understand what was right for them. Also led high-impact checkout improvements and redesigned Glossier’s custom point-of-sale app.

Product Designer at Cadre ↗

2015–2019 · New York

Cadre set out to give accredited individual investors direct access to commercial real estate deals historically available mainly to institutions and wealthy, well-connected investors. My work spanned the investor platform and the internal tools behind it, from presenting new investment opportunities to building underwriting tools for the investment team. I also developed shared design systems and tooling as the platform grew. The challenge throughout was making a complex asset class easier to understand and invest in.

Product Designer at Citymaps

2015 · New York

Citymaps made maps social, letting users collect places into personal maps and lists to share and build with others. I designed the experiences around creating these collections, inviting collaborators, and keeping up with friends’ recommendations. Citymaps was acquired by TripAdvisor in 2016 and was later retired.

Product Designer at Codecademy ↗

2014–2015 · New York

Redesigned Codecademy’s interactive learning environment from the ground up, creating a modular platform for teaching everything from introductory concepts to building complete applications. The workspace adapted to each lesson, introducing file management, terminals, and other development tools as learners needed them. This gave beginners an approachable starting point and the content team room to develop new ways of teaching. The design foundations we established still underpin the product today.

Also worked on Reskill USA, a Codecademy initiative connecting aspiring developers with coding programs and pathways into employment.

Product Designer at Square ↗

2013–2014 · San Francisco

Worked on Square Market and later Square Order, connecting online shopping with local pickup across web and mobile. My work expanded Market’s initial storefront offering into food ordering and larger retail use cases, including pickup for Uniqlo. Order brought Market’s café and restaurant ordering experience into a dedicated mobile app, succeeding Square Wallet. Whole Foods Market was also a pilot customer for this work.

Across both products, I worked from early concepts through implementation, with additional contributions to Square Register and French Canadian localization across Square’s products. Also played a small part in the launch of Square Cash (now Cash App) as a production designer.

Product Designer at Busbud ↗

2012–2013 · Montréal, Canada

Busbud makes it easier to find and book intercity bus travel across different operators and countries. As its first designer, I established the product and visual direction across web and mobile, helping turn a fragmented travel experience into a more approachable service.

Figma – Creating design system tools for non-designers on YouTube ↗

2021

I joined Figma’s Coffee with Charli series to walk through Primer, Glossier’s design system. I demonstrate product photography variants and shared shade swatches, then show the tools I built for brand, copy, and marketing teams to preview homepage imagery and text across screen sizes and assemble campaign emails from reusable templates.
